The house, in 1902
It was built in 1902, a few streets from the port. Back then it was both a home and a place of business. Goods left for Europe through the port of Essaouira, one of the busiest in the kingdom at the time.
Those who lived here
In the medina's early years the house held Moroccan and Jewish families. That is the story of Essaouira itself: a port where these communities lived and traded side by side for generations.
Later the house changed hands and changed shape. It was divided, its rooms let separately. Every door opened onto a different life.
Twenty-five years of patience
A Moroccan family took the house in. Over more than twenty-five years they shaped it into a riad. They planted the courtyard. They opened the terraces. They gave the building back its sense of gathering.
2026, our turn
In 2026 StayHere signed the house into a new chapter. We erased nothing. The original tadelakt stayed. The zellige is laid by hand. The walls kept their patina.
What is new is a layer of considered design and modern comfort, set gently over a century of memory. A hundred-year-old archway and a contemporary artwork can share a wall and look like they always belonged together.

From the Comfort Single to the Deluxe, the riad has 14 rooms. No two are the same. Some look onto the courtyard, others onto the medina through arched shutters.
Breakfast
Our chef composes it every morning: Essaouira's own flavours alongside the classics. It is served in the courtyard and included in the rate. This is the only StayHere address where breakfast is served.

The Skala de la Ville is 1.4 km away. Place Moulay Hassan 1.6 km. The beach 1.4 km. Essaouira is a walking town. And the wind blows almost year-round, which is what makes it a renowned surf and kitesurf spot.
